Your Calling

I want to start this post with this verse in mind…

Philippians 2:13NIV “For it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill His good purpose”

I am sure you have asked yourself and people have asked you; “what is your purpose in life?” or “what do you think your calling is?” I know I have asked these questions to myself numerous times throughout my life. When I read this verse from Philippians it hit me. The question on calling and purpose have halfway been answered through this verse. It is God who works in us to will and act. This tells me that God does the work in our life to fulfill His purpose in our life. But, there is one important thing we must do for God to work in us. We must allow Christ into our life through a relationship with Him, so He can work in us to fulfill His good purpose.raise-3338589_1920

If we invite the Lord into our life and establish that close relationship with Him, He will show us the way to our calling and purpose. This is where most people get stuck as they try and figure their life out by trying different things to discover what their calling is. For some people this could come naturally, but for most out there it can be a long drawn out discovery process. Your calling can be multiple things throughout your lifetime. It can be a calling to serve somewhere, it can be a calling to lead somewhere, or it can be a calling to play in a worship band at the age of 65, you never can tell what God has in store for you if you don’t communicate with Him and get close to Him. So, first thing is first, seek the Lord, then seek your calling.

Seeking a relationship with Christ and understanding His word can help you recognize His will and His purpose. You must strengthen your spiritual life through prayer and worship, and be spiritually cognizant of how He works through you daily. Through understanding you will realize that He is providing you with direction and all you must do is follow it. You are the one driving, but God is giving you the directions.

If you are at that point where you think you will never be called to do anything, then it’s time to strengthen your relationship with God. If you feel you have a strong relationship with Him but are still having a difficult time finding your calling, then maybe it’s time for you to start putting in more effort. God will pave the way in this relationship with Him, but He is not going to hand you a future on a silver platter. He wants you to pursue it and work for it.

God’s calling for you is a gift that you need to discover. When you do, you need to own it with all your heart and soul by putting in every ounce of effort to make it possible.

Fear Nothing

Fear is a slow torturing death that lays dormant in the back of your mind and comes out when you start thinking of the possibilities of fulfilling your dream and purpose in life. Thinking of the happiness and joy of accomplishing goals that can be difficult, is the first step to progress toward your dreams. When you start thinking about the difficulties more than the joys of accomplishing your goals, fear slays those thoughts and sends them to the far back of your mind. This can happen over and over again and is the reason why it can be a slow tortuous death throughout your life. Understand this: the reason why you are being held back is because there is a force that doesn’t want you to fulfill your purpose because your purpose is God’s destiny for you. As you go back and forth in your mind with fear and think of all the little evils that come with it such as doubts and uncertainties, there is a battle going on in your heart. Your heart wants to move forward but the iniquities of fear that lurk in your mind are keeping your heart docked into a position where it cannot reach the freedom of joy.

But if you can hold on to those thoughts of having happiness in accomplishing those goals, your life can change. Hold on in faith! Understand that God has a purpose for you. He gave you those talents. He gave you a heart for those talents so you can grow them into something He needs you to be for His kingdom. Look to the Lord Jesus Christ for strength and courage!

What’s your purpose in life?

This is a question that most people have no matter what stage in life they may be in. Have you ever taken a second to think about God’s purpose for you? Take some time to think about how God can use you for His purpose as you try and figure out how it becomes your purpose in life. As you live for the Lord, you have to think of your purpose as being eternal. As Christians we know where we’re going, so why live life through earthly lenses while trying to figure out what your purpose is? Why put an end date on it when you know that life on earth is just a temporary place! Look at the gifts and passions the Lord has given you? Think about the talents you have and the skills that you possess. Do you feel that God has given you these talents and interests to enhance your life and give you purpose? Absolutely! Living life with the perspective of living for eternity kind of changes how you view your purpose. How can you enjoy the life that God has given you if your purpose is just for this world? As you live for eternity, envision how you can glorify Him with what He has given you. There are many ways you can glorify the Lord with the talents and passions that He has provided you. You don’t have to go on mission trips around the world to glorify His name, you can glorify Him right where you are now doing whatever it is you love to do. Though mission trips around the world may be an awesome experience for believers, but they may not be for everyone and that’s what makes us all unique in God’s kingdom. People have passions for many different things. People who actually go out and serve the Lord under harsh conditions around the world have chosen that lifestyle because of passion! Your mission trip for the Lord started when you invited the Lord Jesus Christ into your life. Since then, it’s been your mission to glorify His name in your everyday life. Your mission may be right outside your door or on the other side of the world, but the bottom line is to live the life God has given you to your fullest potential, glorifying His name in everything you do.
